Today was our first day in Cancun, a mission site where none of us have been before. An early plane flight led to pizza at 8:30 from Sbarro and an early arrival in Mexico that gave us plenty of time to bond before the other group from South Dakota met up with us. Between games of "Down by the Banks" and "Big Booty" we yelled about Kung-Pao Chicken and sang repeat-after-me-songs from past camps. Our enthusiasm was so high that we almost had the taxi drivers participating in our trip bonding with us. After arriving at our mission campus, we realized that we were not in fact staying just anywhere, but basically in a palace. Marble floors, a pool outside, and the biggest shower I have ever seen greeted us as we settled into our temporary home. We made our way to the first children's home, San Jose, and thoroughly enjoyed our time with the kids at the home. We sang songs in Spanish that we didn't understand, and ran around in circles chasing each other until the "cheese stood alone". We did puzzles, played team UNO, and watched Jonathan and Parker get chased around by the cutest set of 6-year-old twins anyone has ever seen. A grill out followed, with hamburgers, nachos, and plenty of jalepenos for all. Trevor, Thomas, and "CRAIG" arrived safely with donations and we all had our first group worship inside our new palace successfully sweating through all of our clothes. After multilingual worship and debriefing, each of our team members called it a night and settled in, so we are ready for our day tomorrow. So far it has been a smooth journey, and we all can't wait to see what this week brings.
Love you all,
Rachel
